You will always be full in the big cities of Thailand because there are markets everywhere with plenty of street food. Bangkok says you're never more than 50 meters from the nearest restaurant. We can't get enough of it and recommend trying several dishes and drinks. As you can easily be overwhelmed by the variety of street food, we would like to recommend our favourite dishes.
Pad Thai Kung
Fried rice noodles with shrimps (or without)
Khao Pad
Thai-style fried rice
Khao Mun Gai
Steamed chicken on rice
Gai or Moo bing
Grilled chicken or pork on a skewer
Pad Kra Pao
Roasted pork with holy basil (tastes nothing like ours)
Khao Soi (from the north of Thailand)
Curry with braised chicken in coconut broth, boiled egg noodles, shrimp paste and lots of spices. On top are crispy noodles and pickled cucumbers.
Massaman Curry
Curry with coconut milk, potatoes, chicken, beef, or tofu
Green Curry (or Gaeng Kiew Wan Gai)
Thais mainly make this Curry out of Coconut milk with green pepper, chilis, lime leaves, coriander, and basil.
Poh Pia Tod
Our all-time favourite spring rolls
Mango Sticky Rice
Sticky rice with sliced mangoes and coconut condensed milk (dessert)
Durian
Jackfruit or, to put it nicely in German, "Kotzfrucht". Don't be put off. To me, the pieces of durian fruit that can be bought taste like mango and smell like pineapple and banana. It only emits an unpleasant odour that smells like rotten onions when the fruit is still whole and fully ripe.
Fruit Shakes
It is a choice of fruit, puréed with crushed ice. These are usually heavily sweetened, but you can also tell us that you don't want any syrup or only 50% of it.
Thai Tea
Thai tea is strong black tea with anise, tamarind, and cardamom. Thai people love this drink, and it convinced us too. Especially on hot days, it is a perfect change from coffee.
Have you had enough energy but are still not satisfied with the location of your hotel? Then, we recommend our two favourite districts.
